HIND ZINC WINS INDIRA MAHILA SHAKTI SAMMAN AWARD

The company was presented with the award by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot for excelling in the field of women empowerment
Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc, India’s only and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc-lead-silver producer, received the ‘Indira Mahila Shakti ProtsahanAvam Samman’ Award by Women & Child Development Department – Rajasthan Governmenton the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The program was graced by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri. Ashok Gehlot who presented the award to all the winners who have excelled in the field of women empowerment. The event was held at the Birla Auditorium in Jaipur to honor individuals and organizations that was witnessed many Government officials. During the award ceremony, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri. Ashok Gehlot, appreciated the efforts of individuals and organizations in empowering women by making them self-reliant, and encouraged everyone to keep working in the same spirit to ensure women’s equal participation in society.
Hindustan Zinc -Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Institute received the award along with Skilling project implementing partner team (Ambuja Cement Foundation).
Hindustan Zinc through its Skilling initiative aims at providing market linked job opportunities and self-employment to the local youth and also ensure female participation to promote gender equality. As of now more than 2600 youth have been trained through this initiative out of which 1000 are females. The company has joined hands with Ambuja Cement Foundation and Tata Strive to work towards the skill development in rural areas. Initially the organizations conducted a need assessment survey to identify the types of employment opportunities available for local youth along with their area of interest. On the basis of this assessment, Hindustan Zinc Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Institute were started in Dariba&Agucha in 2019-20 with an aim to offer short duration intensive courses. Now four new centers have been initiated, at Kayad and Debari by Ambuja Cement Foundation while at Chanderiya and Pantnagar, Tata Strive is in charge of implementing the project.
As a socially responsible corporate, Hindustan Zinc has been relentlessly working to improve the lives of rural and tribal people residing near its business locations. The company is amongst the Top 15 CSR Spenders in India and are currently reaching out to 700,000 people in 184 villages of Rajasthan and 5 in Uttarakhand.


Women dive into mining head-on: Hindustan Zinc

The company strives to support women in the mining industry, with a gender diversity ratio of 18.9% and 5.2 per cent in leadership positions.

Hindustan Zinc is a firm believer in the significance of diversity and equal opportunity in the success and growth of any company and has made it one of the foundational ideals of its human resource management strategy. The company acknowledges the significance of bringing the perspectives of women to the table and has implemented several policies and practices for that purpose. The company is dedicated to the Women Empowerment Principles developed and distributed by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), in collaboration with the United Nations Global Compact.
Women hold critical roles at Hindustan Zinc in numerous departments such as marketing, CSR, supply chain and logistics, and communication. Women make up about 15% of the executive personnel in the company. Women’s employment and research opportunities have risen and broadened since the government lifted the ban on women entering mines, allowing women engineers and geologists to work in the underground mines.
Various initiatives were implemented to strengthen the number of women employees and to encourage more women, as a result of which accomplishments such as recruiting the first women mining engineers came to Hindustan Zinc. Sandhya Rasakatla, the Underground Mine Manager of Hindustan Zinc’s Zawarmala Mine, and Yogeshwari Rane, the Head of Planning & Development at Hindustan Zinc’s Kayad Mine, were both conferred the “First Class Mines Manager” certificate of competency in the “Unrestricted” category.The company also has
The company’s Diversity Mentoring Program is aimed at supporting women professionals. The objective has been to nurture a pool of talented women by promoting improved retention, developing a coping system for organisational change, and supporting women professionals in self-development. During the first phase of the program, 168 women professionals were acknowledged and mentored by 108 higher-ranking leaders in the company.
Hindustan Zinc assures and administers no discrimination in its promotion, recruitment, placement criteria, or any other issues related to employment to promote and foster diversification as a regular practice within the company and in all associations involving key stakeholders. The employee’s work and expertise serve as the only criteria for remuneration.
Hindustan Zinc is focused on supporting diversity and inclusion both inside the company and among its partner communities. In FY 2011, women in the executive workforce were at 6% and by the end of FY 2021 the number stood at 15%
highlighting the growing women workforce in the company across levels and positions.
Hindustan Zinc’s Diversity & Inclusion policy assists in determining, organising, planning, and implementing the agenda, support apparatus, and scope of actions required to eliminate the inequality that prevents the company from meeting its diversity goals. Excellent on-site medical services, child daycare facilities, restrooms, residential settlements, and other amenities are available to help women accomplish their responsibilities effectively while meeting their fundamental demands for a healthy and clean work environment. As a result of these attributes, Hindustan Zinc has one of the highest return to work ratios of women professionals who return to work after maternity leave. It exemplifies the ease with which the organisation’s women professionals can balance their work and personal responsibilities and commitments.
According to the latest study, 401 women employees are in executive and non executive positions at Hindustan Zinc, accounting for 10.78% of full-time employees, with 9.46% representation in top management positions, 11.2% in Operations and Maintenance, and 33.7% in Enabling functions. Women in mining who work in Asset Integrity, Mine O&M, and Mill O&M constitute 9.4% of the workforce, while women in smelting who work in operations such as Smelter Asset Integrity, Smelter Operation, Lab, etc constitute 14.5% of the workforce. At the same time women constitute 35% of the active security workforce and women in the quality function which overlooks and ensures quality checks & systems in processes stands at 46%. These figures are anticipated to grow as the company initites novel and innovative programs and initiatives to encourage and nurture women professionals.


Hind Zinc’s Unchi Udaan – Empowering the present, Transforming the future

A four-year residency program prepares students from minimal families to pursue their engineering dreams, 184 students in six batches have been prepared to embrace a promising future in engineering domain
Udaipur/ The flight to a bright future is something every human being aspires for. However, the reality of lack of socio-economic independence and inadequate facilities have clipped the wings of many in our country. The only thing that distinguishes them is their determination to overcome all odds. Hindustan Zinc’s educational programs are designed to support this ambition.

Investment in strengthening the educational focus area is the biggest portfolio among Hindustan Zinc’s CSR initiatives. Through its educational interventions,the company is touching the lives of more than 1.8 lacs children and thereby enable them to have a brighter future.
Considering this, the Unchi Udaan Program was designed to bridge the gap between students with exceptional aptitude in science and the engineering institution of their dreams. The program, which is now operating in the cities of Udaipur handpicks high-performing students from minimal families from rural areas of Hindustan Zinc’soperational areas and train them over the course of a four-year residential coaching program.
The intensive training prepares students for JEE in collaboration with Resonance Edu ventures Pvt. Ltd and Vidya Bhavan Society.
So far, Unchi Udaan has been able to Transform lives of over 184 students in six batches in taking the leap and securing placements in IITs, NITs, and other top engineering institutes across the country with 100% success. The initiative is supporting 134 students this year. In a batch of 26 students, 9 class to 12 pass-outs were enrolled 1 in IIT, 1 in NIT, 9 in Jodhpur’s MBM colleges and remaining other in prestigious engineering colleges around the country.
Sameer Mohammad, a resident of Agucha in Rajasthan, is an exemplar of how the program has been successful in identifying and nurturing talents in the state. He asserts, “I was able to crack the JEE entrance with an AIR of 1725 and secure a place in Chemical Engineering at IIT Madras.”.
Priyanka Chouhan, a fighter in the making from Chittorgarh, was selected into MBM, Jodhpur, to pursue Mechanical Engineering. “The Unchi Udaan program has helped me prepare for my engineering admission examinations,” she says. During my preparation, I lost my father and grandfather, and the faculty supported me in coping with the loss so that I could reemerge and confidently appear in the examinations.”
Hindustan Zinc has been cognizant of the importance of education to the inclusive growth of children and remain focused on facilitating the same among the communities in their operational area. This program is not limited to the 184 students who have been accepted into the program, but also to the thousands of others who are inspired by their progress. The company has been working hard to get children from all age groups and all sections of society access to quality education through programs like the Shiksha Sambal Foundation, which works with government schools across Rajasthan; Khushi and Nandghar, which work with Aganwadi workers; YashadSumedha Scholarship for Higher Education; and Jeevan Tarang, Zinc Ke Sang, that also works with specially-abled children.
Through this fully residential program, Hindustan Zinc has ensured to provide education with classroom training and overall development of these aspirants intending to prepare and appear in various competitive, talent search and scholarship examinations of national and international level.

Hind Zinc along with DGMS conclude Mines Safety Week

The Mines Safety Week for Underground Metalliferous Mines of Udaipur Region concluded at Hindustan Zinc’s Zawar Mines today. Under the aegis of Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), the 44th and 45th Mine Safety Week with theme of ‘Cleanliness, Silicosis Awareness, COVID-19 Awareness and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ was concluded.

The event saw huge participation from employees and business partners of Hindustan Zinc, along with representatives from the local administration.
The event was graced by the presence of Chief Guests Shri Satish D. Chiddarwar, Dy. Director General of Mine Safety (North and North-West zone) and Shri Arun Misra, CEO – Hindustan Zinc along with Shri B Dayasagar, DMS – Udaipur Region; Shri Nayan Sinha, DDMS – Udaipur Region; Shri Laluram Meena, General Secretary – Zawar Mines Majdoor Sangh.
Speaking at the event, Mr Arun Misra CEO – Hindustan Zinc said, “Safety is a point of determination for us and all the management at Hindustan Zinc are committed to this vision. All employees, business partners and people associated with Hindustan Zinc are given equal and utmost importance when it comes to safety. Be it with our COVID Field hospital in Dariba or the Corona Kavach Policy extended to each and every employee & business partner; health, wellbeing and safety is always of paramount importance and we will continue to do the same.”
Shri Satish D. Chiddarwar, Dy. Director General of Mine Safety (North and North-West zone) appreciated the efforts on Safety by Hindustan Zinc and their initiatives towards ESG & decarbonisation. He also expressed his opinions on how Hindustan Zinc has been at the forefront of health & wellbeing of their people especially during the COVID pandemic.
The event saw great engagement from the employees who conducted ‘Nukkad Nataks’ and Sensitisation plays for the audience in order to raise awareness on safety standards.


Hind Zinc reinforces its commitment towards safe and healthy communities

The company distributed over 2000 masks to students across Government Schools of Rajsamand, More than 250 Covid kits were distributed to 10 Panchayat Bhavans, 8 Shiksha Sambal Schools, 32 Anganwadi centres& Govt. institution
Udaipur : One of Hindustan Zinc’s core values is the safety and well-being of its local community. As a part of COVID relief efforts,Hindustan Zinc’s Rajpura Dariba Complex (RDC) team today distributed over 250 COVID test kits to 8 Shiksha Sambal Schools, 10 Panchayat Bhavans and 32 Anganwadi centres.

Additionally, the company distributed face masks to over 2000 students and around 320 students from Gawardi Government school with school staff, Principals, Sarpanch and Upsarpanch and CSR team RDCactively participated in this distribution activity.
On the occasion, Mr. Sanjay KumarKathor – Director, Rajpura Dariba Complex (RDC), shared his thoughts, “COVID has affected lives of millions across the country and we at Hindustan Zinc continues to stand united with Nation in these unprecedented times. We hope that by making these resources available, we will be able to assist our communities in survive during the pandemic.”
The team during the beginning of 2nd wave of pandemic had set up an oxygen bottling plant at its Dariba unit (Rajsamand district) in a record time of 5 days ensuring continuous oxygen supply for patients and had supplied more than 14000 cylinders of oxygen. Hindustan Zinc had also set-up state-of-the-art ‘field hospital’ to fight against COVID in Rajasthan and extended support to the state government by donating 500 oxygen concentrators and conducting extensive vaccination campaigns.
HZL works closely with its communities as part of its core philosophy, by creating value for its stakeholders and achieving overall social-economic development.
