Hindustan Zinc, recognized as Zinc of India, is looking to expand its mining and smelting capacities. The company is on course to produce 1.2 million tonnes of metal on immediate basis and subsequently 1.35 million tonnes in 3-4 years’ time and eventually 1.5 million tonnes in about 5 years.
The mines are also under expansion and Hindustan Zinc is looking to increase mine production from all its mines to support the smelters. To take this vision forward 250 graduate engineers (GETs) from 61 colleges of 23 States of India have joined Hindustan Zinc. These engineers are from different streams like – mining, electrical, metallurgical, chemical, instrumentation, electronics, civil engineering, mechanical and computer engineering and would be going through a rigorous process of induction. During the induction, they would be given exposure to different businesses, departments and challenges. Leaders from all the departments of Hindustan Zinc would be interacting with them to give exposure of business. Post induction these engineers would be placed in Hindustan Zinc mines and smelters located at Udaipur, Zawar, Bhilwara, Chanderiya, Dariba, and Ajmer in Rajasthan and Pantnagar in Uttarakhand.
Speaking on the occasion Sunil Duggal, CEO of Hindustan Zinc said, I am very happy to see GETs from across the country joining Hindustan Zinc and it only proves that the importance of mining is understood across all top engineering colleges in India, as one of the most important sectors towards economic development of a nation. Our mines are expanding and each GET who is joining has a leader within. Your career graph will depend upon how you want to grow and how much energy and passion you bring to your work. Hindustan Zinc is an open field for your ideas and innovations. Hindustan Zinc is a place where safety is given utmost importance. There is zero-tolerance on safety. Each one of the GETs has to 100% adhere safety norms and ensure there is no deviation.”

With current production capacity of about 550 tonnes of Silver, Hindustan Zinc is the 10th largest Silver producer globally and is aiming to produce 1500 tonnes of Silver in the next 4-5 years and be counted amongst the top 3 global silver producers. Recently, the Company’s silver refinery at Pantnagar has been recognized by London Bullion Market Association for its quality.
