Hind Zinc Wins Big at the CSR Journal Excellence Awards 2021

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc, India’s only and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc-lead-silver producer, received the CSR Journal’s Fourth Edition CSR Journal Excellence Awards 2021 during the ceremony in Mumbai. The award was presented to the company for its two flagship CSR projects, the Zinc Football, which promotes grassroots football in India, and the Sakhi, which empowers the women entrepreneurs of the future. The chief guests of the event were the Hon’ble Ministerof Road Transport and Highways – Shri. Nitin Gadkari Ji,the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra – Shri. Bhagat Singh Koshyari Ji and Hon’ble Minister of Finance & Planning, Forest – Shri. Sudhir Mungantiwar ji.On behalf on Hindustan ZincMs. Anupam Nidhi – Head CSR, received the award.

The CSR Journal Excellence Award recognises and honours companies for their outstanding contributions to achieving long-term social transformation. The Excellence Awards 2021 highlights responsible leadership from individuals and organizations in humanitarian initiatives, honouring innovative and best practices in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility across seven award categories. Agriculture and Rural Development, COVID-19 Relief, Education and Skill Training, Environment, Health and Sanitation, Sports, and Women Empowerment and Child Welfare are among the categories.

Through frequent initiatives and investments in their growth, development, and welfare, it strives to enable the holistic growth of everybody. With the philosophy that “every child should have the opportunity to play,” Zinc Football has developed 12 community football facilities where 350+ boys and girls get football training from certified coaches. Its ambition is to generate future football stars for the state and country by nurturing talent. A residential academy with world-class facilities and the country’s first-ever ‘technology-hinged football training’ centre is at the core of this endeavour in Zawar.
Sakhi, the company’s other significant initiative, has spread across the state of Rajasthan. The flagship project aims to bring rural women together in self-help groups (SHGs) and strengthen their leadership, skill development, and entrepreneurship skills. Spices, pulses, and pickle-based micro-enterprises with 250+ women have been established to train these SHG women to become rural entrepreneurs. Project Sakhi has also united the women craftsmen under the brand Upaya, which is now touching urban cities. Business Sakhis worked hard during COVID-19 to increase sales of items made in operational communities. The Sakhi members assisted the CSR team in reaching out to the most impacted communities with food and other necessary supplies during the pandemic.
As a socially responsible corporate, Hindustan Zinc has been relentlessly working towards improving the lives of rural and tribal people residing near its business locations. The company is amongst the top 15 CSR spenders in India and is currently reaching out to 700,000 people in 184 villages in Rajasthan, 5 in Uttarakhand and 16 villages in Gujarat.


Hind Zinc inaugurates skill development centre to empower local youth

Free Skill Development training will be provided to local community youth in disciplines like Electrical Maintenance and Food & Beverages, Skilling initiatives of Hindustan Zinc will help youth become self-sufficient and Job ready.
Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc, India’s only and among world’s largest integrated zinc-lead-silver producerhasintroduced 2 new courses under Skill Development initiatives, with this program Hindustan Zinc has mobilized 120students of nearby panchayats with their implementation partner Birla Open Minds, by providing them free training in discipline likes Electrical Maintenance and food & Beverages, as a responsible corporate Hindustan Zinc contributes towards the development of the country by skilling their local community youth in various functions.

“With free skill development training we can help youth to get ready for job interviews and make them self-sufficient to reduce their expenses and increase their income” said Lalu Ram – Mahamantri, Zawar Mazdoor Sang.
Further Kishor Kumar – SBU Director, Zawar Minesadded “By providing free training in Electrical Maintenance and food & Beverages, as well as providing the training ofComputer basics and English this initiative will bridge the gap between tribal & youth of cities, which helps them to become self-sufficient”
Zinc Kaushal Kendraan initiative started by Hindustan Zincwith an aim to offer short-duration intensive courses in different trades like Assistant Electrician, Microfinance Executive, Unarmed Security Guard, General Duty Assistant, Retail Sales Executive, etc. The centre helps and prepares the youth for entering into the job market and self-employment opportunities which willhelp them to earn their livelihood and later make concrete and positive difference in their lives.

This program is inaugurated in the gracious presence of Mr. Kishor Kumar – SBU Director, Zawar Mines; Mr. Lalu Ram – Mahamantri, Zawar Mazdoor Sang; Mr. Naga Ram – Union padadhikari, Nevatalai Sarpanch; Mr. Kishan Lal Meena – Bhaladiya sarpanch pratinidhi; Mr. Dhul Chand Meena & Mr. Kesu Lal Meena – panchayat samiti sadasya.

Hind Zinc launches passenger EVs for employees to reduce carbon footprint

Under the ground & over the surface, EVs are leading the way at Hindustan Zinc as the company fast tracks its decarbonization journey with implementation of frontline, utility, service and passenger electric vehicles, The company had also signed MoUs with Epiroc and Normet for introducing India’s First Electric Vehicles in Underground Mines
Udaipur : Making their way to replace diesel & fossil-fuel based vehicles at Hindustan Zinc’s mining locations will be state-of-the-art zero emission electric vehicles.

Hindustan Zinc, India’s only and among world’s leading integrated zinc-lead-silver producer, is jumping onto the EV revolution, steadily shifting to electric vehicles for both underground operations and surface mobility for employees.The companyrecently added to its fleet of electric vehicles, including electric scooters for security staff, passenger EVs at locations, and underground service EV for mines. All these vehicles are in addition to the MoUs that Hindustan Zinc has already signed to introduce BEVs in underground mining operations.
“Our decarbonization journey is not only substituting underground frontline vehicles with electric alternatives but also making this shift in service vehicles, LMVs, and passenger vehicles across our locations. Our aim is that in the next five years’ time all machines due replacement are only replaced with battery operated vehicles to realise our vision of zero emission and carbon free mining,” said Mr Arun Misra, CEO – Hindustan Zinc.
In a pioneering move to decarbonise Indian Mining, Hindustan Zinc signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last year with Normet Group Oy and Epiroc Rock Drills AB to introduce battery electric vehicles across its underground mines in Rajasthan.
At Hindustan Zinc, sustainability is an intrinsic aspect of the company’s operations and all business decisions. The company is on an ambitious sustainability journey, led by its Sustainability Goals 2025 and driven by the vision of ‘ZERO HARM, ZERO WASTE, ZERO DISCHARGE.’ In this ESG journey, HZL has planned to invest $1bn to go green in the next five years while continuously leading decarbonisation practices. Hind Zinc prioritizes safety in the ‘Iconic Week’ celebration

Udaipu : Hindustan Zinc, India’s largest and the world’s leading zinc-lead and silver producer, celebrated ‘Iconic Week’ – Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – at Zawar Group of Mines under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS). On Thursday, the company held a workshop on the topic of “Safety Aspects of Diesel Machineries in Underground Metalliferous Mines.The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Satish D. Chiddarwar, Deputy Director General of DGMS (Northern Zone), and Shri Arun Misra, Chief Executive Officer, Hindustan Zinc. Other special guests present in the event were Gujarat Ahmedabad DGMS representative Manish Pal, Surat DGMS Murlidhar Mishra, JP Verma, Zawar SBU Director Kishore Kumar, Labour Union General Secretary Lalu Ram Meena, Sarada Subdivision Officer Subhash Hemani, and many others. Officers and employees from various government organizations, business institutions, and industries were present in the workshop on the essential topic of underground mine safety. The guests inaugurated the museum containing relics from mining and production that used to happen 500 years ago.

The Government is celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), an initiative to honour India’s glorious history and unique diversity of language, culture, and people. It is being celebrated by the Ministry of Labour and Employment between 07th March 2022 to 13th March 2022, to build a movement that activates events envisioned to build community connect, increase social interaction, and discover India’s rich culture. Hindustan Zinc, a company that has emphasised safety since its inception, undertook the initiative to educate and emphasize on the safety aspects of Diesel Machineries in Underground Metalliferous Mines.

Shri Satish D. Chiddarwar, Dy. Director-General of Mine Safety (North and North-West zone) appreciated the efforts of Hindustan Zinc in the Iconic Week Celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. He also expressed his thoughts on how mining is the cornerstone of the Indian economy and the potential it has towards increasing the GDP, creating employment opportunities and realizing India’s vision of a 5 trillion-dollar economy. He emphasized the importance of the mining sector in India’s next phase of the growth journey and encouraged women to be part of the mining industry and how the sector should work towards creating infrastructure support for the same.

The company has also implemented a number of unique safety measures that use digitalization, allowing it to scale up safety, operational efficiency, and digital standards. In addition, the company has India’s first-of-its-kind underground first aid station. The station is outfitted with modern medical equipment that can provide essential life-saving assistance in the event of an emergency. HINDUSTAN ZINC WINS NATIONAL SAFETY AWARD

The company’s Kayad Mine received the award in two categories from Hon’ble Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India – Shri Bhupendra Yadav
Ajmer : Hindustan Zinc’s Kayad Mine received National Safety Award in an event organized by Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India in two categories – Longest Accident-Free in metal mines and Lowest Injury Frequency Rate (LIFR) per lakh man shift in Metal Mines. During the ceremony, the Hon’ble Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt. of India – Shri Bhupendra Yadav presented the Award to all the winners.
National Safety Award recognizes organizations with good safety performance and to stimulate and maintain the interest of both the management and the workers in accident prevention and safety promotion programs, the Government of India instituted National Safety Awards (NSA) in the year 1965.

On behalf of Hindustan Zinc, Mr. K.C Meena, Director Kayad Mine received the award.
In line with the organizational goal of zero harm, zero waste, and zero discharge, Kayad Mine has taken several key interventions and initiatives to augment safety performance and has implemented the best in class global safety precautionary and preventive measures.
Kayad Mine has also been the recipient of 5 Star Rating by the Indian Bureau of Mines.
Hindustan Zinc’s Kayad Mine has been certified by Quality Management System ISO 9001:2015, Environment Management ISO 14001:2015, Occupational Health, Safety Management ISO 45001:2018, and Social Accountability 8000:2014.
