Hind Zinc Wins ‘Company with Great Managers’ Award for Two Consecutive Years

The awards highlights Hindustan Zinc’s contribution to employee empowerment and sustained efforts to ensure a healthy workplace

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc, the world’s leading zinc-lead and silver producer, has received the ‘Company with Great Managers 2021’ award. The Great Manager Awards is a joint initiative between People Business and Economic Times to identify, recognize and reward organizations with ‘Great Managers’ in India.

This program enables the participant organizations to compare and benchmark themselves and their managers across the industry. Also, Ms Sunipa Roy, Chief Commercial Officer and Mr C Chandru, Chief Operating Officer, Smelters of Hindustan Zinc Limited, were the proud recipients of the ‘Great Managers’ award.

Hindustan Zinc has created a distinct working culture across its operations and processes. Recently, the company launched a structured and high-impact learning program called the Managerial Effectiveness Program, which comprises of a 360-degree evaluation and an individual feedback session aimed at new managers to assist them in transitioning from individual contributors to great managers. Hindustan Zinc believes that its most valuable asset is its people, and that a motivated and productive team is the cornerstone of the company’s long-term success.
Through a range of rigorous managerial competence evaluations, including leadership style and performance, the renowned ‘Great Manager Programs’ strive to define and develop an ecosystem and culture in India that produces great managers. Nominated managers are evaluated on key managerial criteria using an international benchmark and evaluation model.
Hindustan Zinc has a robust HR framework that focuses on close involvement with its employees at all levels. Employees’ requirements, including technological, functional, behavioural, management, and leadership aspects, are the driving force behind the involvement. Gender parity is another priority of the company, with equal representation and opportunity for both genders at all levels. During FY20-21, two of the female employees went from breaking ground to breaking barriers. Sandhya Rasakatla became India’s first woman mine manager, while Yogeshwari Rane became India’s first woman to obtain a first-class certificate in both restricted and unrestricted categories.


SAKHI wins ‘Leaders for Social Change’ Award

The ‘Leaders for Social Change’ award was established by Socio Story with the goal of empowering corporate changemakers, SAKHI initiative has been transforming lives of rural women by offering opportunities to become self-reliant

Ms. Anupam Nidhi – CSR Head, Hindustan Zincalong with Vaibhavi from CSR team and twoSAKHI leaders, Ms. Vijayshree Ji (Federation Leader) and Ms. Rajani Ji (Samuh Sakhi) received the award at the India Impact Summit in New Delhi.

Socio Story initiated the ‘Leaders for Social Change’ award with the intention of empowering corporate change makers to share and express their inspiring stories while also incorporating sustainable development goals. Hindustan Zinc’s SAKHI initiative is part of the company’s larger sustainability goal of positively impacting 1 million lives.
SAKHI project has been instrumental in transforming the lives of rural women in and around operational areas of Hindustan Zinc. SAKHI aims to mobilise rural women into Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and strengthen their leadership, accelerate skill development, and increase their entrepreneurial capabilities. There are 2,248 SHGs, 207 village-level organisations, and 7 federations involved in this initiative, with a total membership of 27,517 women. More than 500 women have been groomed as future leaders because of leadership skills provided to them via numerous training and capacity-building programs.Sakhi has established 9 production centres, which generates 43.47 lacs turnover. The company had also launched its first ‘Sakhi Haat’ – a modern marketplace developed by and for our Sakhi women and SHGs.The ‘Sakhi Haat’ is a unique initiative that enables our rural women to showcase and market their handmade products. This initiative aims to boost their entrepreneurship skills, building a community of economically, socially, and culturally motivated women.
The winner was determined through an open and transparent process based on environmental, social, and governance criteria. It was highly competitive and predicated on principles of integrity, clarity, and sustainable long-term growth and development. The jury’s aim was to highlight noteworthy CSR projects that have made a protracted contribution to the community.
During the COVID-19 led pandemic, Sakhi members supported the company’s efforts to reach out to the most impacted populations with food and other necessities. A total of 3,269 Sakhi members gathered over 10,000 kg of grains to form a grain bank, which distributed food to deprived communities in the villages of South Rajasthan. A community kitchen was also established as part of the Sakhi initiative, and food was supplied to over 7,000 migrant workers through it. Even during the rough times of COVID-19, Business Sakhis were actively working to promote sales of products manufactured in the business’s operational villages.Sakhi members also supported the district administration by providing 2,50,000hand stitched masks, 1 lac PPEs and 25,000 sodium hypochlorite litres of solution for fogging.


Dariba Smelter wins Prestigious CII National Awards

Excellence in Water Management
-The award recognises businesses that have upgraded their water efficiency and built an integrated water management system

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc’s Dariba Smelting Complex has been declared as ‘Winner’ in the ‘within the fence’ category at the prestigious 15th CII National Awards for Excellence in Water Management.

The award was presented to Dariba Smelting Complex by a distinguished jury panel led by Dr. Anil K. Kakodkar, Chief of Jury and Chairman, Rajiv Gandhi Science & Technology Commission, along with other renowned Jury members during the CII International Water Innovation Summit through a virtual platform. The award honours organisations that have made significant progress in terms of water efficiency and have implemented an integrated wastewater management system that encompasses the recycling, recovery, and reuse of process water.
Efficient use and recycling water has been a top priority for Hindustan Zinc as part of its dedication to ‘Water Stewardship’ initiatives. HZLprimarily focusses on two areas to assist the development of sustainable water management: enhancing water efficiency and working with others to improve the benefits and availability of water resources. The company has set a long-term goal of being a 5x water positive by 2025, with a 25% decrease in freshwater use. Hindustan Zinc’s state-of-the-art technologies like Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and Paste-Fill Plant have significantly enhanced reuse and recycling of water.The company has also pledged to support the UN Global Compact Water Action Platform (CEO Water Mandate), committing to adopting and implementing the mandate’s strategic framework and six-core water management elements.


IT’S NO VEHICLE DAY FOR HINDUSTAN ZINC

CEO and all employees either walked, rode their bikes, took public transit, shared rickshaw,or carpool with their co-workers to get to work, As part of ESG commitment, on Energy Conservation Day, company spread awareness on reducing carbon footprint and promote energy conservation in a unique way
Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc, India’s largest producer of zinc, lead, and silver, observed “No Vehicle Day” by adopting eco-friendly alternatives for transportation on‘National Energy Conservation Day’. The day was celebrated in a unique way by spreading awareness on reducing the carbon footprint, promote energy conservation, and reduce pollution generated by automobiles. All the senior personnel, employees, and staff including CEO,throughout the business’s operational sites travelled to their office either on foot, via bicycle, shared rickshaw, public transportation, or through carpooling with their colleagues on Tuesday.

Rallies were held at the company’s unit sites to raise awareness, and other activities such as quiz competitions, plant distribution, commitment board signing, and a skit performance were also organised. These diverse activities piqued the employees’ interest, and many pledged to limit the usage of their private vehicles as much as possible.In India, the transportation sector emits an estimated 261 tonnes of CO2, with road transport accounting for 94.5%. A typical passenger vehicle emits around 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide each year. By avoiding driving for even a single day, one can minimise their carbon footprint by around 0.5 tonnes over a year.
Mr. Arun Misra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, expressing his thoughts on this remarkable way of commemorating Energy Conservation Day, said, “The primary objective of honouring this day is to raise awareness and understanding among all employees regarding the significance of curtailing their carbon footprint and encourage them to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by avoiding the use of fossil fuels. We also encouraged all to use cycles and public transportation on a daily basis in order to contribute to a pollution-free environment and be the environmentally conscious citizens of India. Hindustan Zinc is committed to the cause of sustainability and to ensure GHG emission reductions in a substantive number in the next four to five years.”
Hindustan Zinc is dedicated to reducing carbon emissions on a continuous basis, with sustainability as an overriding goal of its growth objectives. Through a series of innovative and emerging initiatives, the company is taking proactive steps toward attaining its target of reducing its carbon footprint by 500,000 tons of CO2. These include the deployment of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in underground mining, the installation of variable frequency drives to minimise auxiliary power usage, and the revamping of CPP turbines, among other things.


RUNAYA BAGS MULTI PLEPRESTIGIOUS ACCOLADES

Co-Founder Naivedya Agarwal wins Businessworld Young Entrepreneur Award while company awarded ‘Sustainable Business of The Year’ at the Global Sustainability Leadership Awards
Mumbai : Runaya, one of India’s fastest growing manufacturing start-ups, has won two distinguished honours recognizing its disruptive business model and ushering transformational changes in the resources sector. Runaya’s Co-Founder Naivedya Agarwal won Businessworld’s BW Disrupt Young Entrepreneur Awards 2021 and the company was awarded as the ‘Sustainable Business of The Year’ at this year’s edition of theGlobal Sustainability Leadership Awards organised by the World Sustainability Congress.

BW Disrupt Young Entrepreneur Awards is an annual event conceptualized by BW Businessworld, where start-ups and entrepreneurs who transformed the Indian ecosystem are identified, acknowledged, and celebrated. Naivedya Agarwal, Co-Founder of Runaya was among the 36 recipients of the Young Entrepreneur Awards 2021 recognising the work done by the company in leveraging best-in-class technology to create innovative solutions for the resources sector.
Runaya won the ‘Sustainable Business of The Year’ award at the Global Sustainability Leadership Awards organised by the World Sustainability Congressfor its efforts towards promoting a circular economy in the resources sector. Runayahas a sustainability and metal recovery project currently operating in Jharsuguda,Odisha, where 100% of Aluminium dross is processed into value-add products. The drossrecycling plant at Jharsuguda, which is a project to provide an end-to-end green solution forrecovery of aluminium and processing residual waste from aluminium smelters, addresses oneof the biggest challenges facing the aluminium industry, which relates to handling, evacuation,processing and disposal of dross in an environmentally friendly manner.The depleted dross is further used to manufacture Runaya Briquettes, which have found wide acceptance in steel industry, resulting in a zero-waste zero-discharge process.
