The SAMADHANprogramhas now been operational for more than 4 years with the support of implementing partner BAIF Livelihoods and during this period the program hasbenefitted 13,835 farmers with area-specific innovative agriculture practices and 14,517 farmers with improved cattle breeding and animal advisory services. The collaboration will enhance and ensure efficient trickling down of agriculture and livestock innovation till farm level, making SAMADHAN an aspirational program for other states and regions. Dr. N. S. Rathore, Vice Chancellor, MPUAT emphasized the importance of empowerment required in the farming community and developing the capacity of farmers who are the building blocks of the nation’s economy. SAMADHAN always has been focussing on introducing better alternatives to develop sustainable farming models for the farming community. On its way forward, SAMADHAN is also moving into community-based institution ‘Farmer Producer Organisations’ to strengthen the farming community and bring in sustainability through theprogram. MPUAT will also support the program with on-farm technical guidance and provide institutional training to bring out progressive farmers from our community. “This collaboration with MPUAT as an academic partner will help in creating a space to bring in synergy which in turn will result in an impactful transformation,” said Mr. Bharat Kakade, Managing Director, BAIF. SAMADHAN has also been able to develop over 263 acres of land with fruit-bearing plants, improving the ecological balance and economical security of the community. With its Integrated Livestock Development Centre, SAMADHAN has been able to create 5338 female progenies which yield 1.5 times more milk production and catered more than 1 lakh large and small ruminants through its animal health camps.

Over the years, Vedanta has built one of the most recognised and impactful CSR programmes in India. During FY2020, the company had spent Rs 296 crore on its CSR initiatives.
The company’s CSR expenditure, which is among the highest by India Inc, has been spread across the company’s core impact areas of education, health, sustainable livelihoods, women empowerment, sports and culture, environment and community development. Each of the Group business units played its part by executing the respective CSR agenda, in line with the Group guidelines. Vedanta’s flagship initiative for women and children, Nand Ghar,has touched a new milestone, with the setting up of 2,400 Nand Ghars across 11 states as it continues to pave the way for the model Anganwadi ecosystem. The initiative aims to touch the lives of 7 crore children and 2 crore women. For Vedanta, supporting communities during the COVID-19 crisis assumed precedence as itcreated a safety net for employees, their families, and local communities, helping migrant workers, feeding animals, supplying ration to communities who were isolated due to Covid, and also importing machines for emergency supply of PPEs to Covid Warriors. Vedanta distributed nearly 25 lakh meals and ration kits, and over 7 lakh health and hygiene kits. During the second wave, Vedanta’s business units worked closely with the Central and State governments to provide medical equipment, including critical care machines like ventilators, and has supplied more than 20 lakh litres of oxygen for Covid patients. To augment health infrastructure, Vedanta has set up 10 field hospitals for COVID patients across the country. The company is constantly striving to create an environment of safety and wellbeingfor various communities. As part of their disaster management protocol, their Covid warriors are preparing and taking pre-emptive and preventive measures in case of any third wave of the pandemic.

As part of the campaign, the company will be unveiling five videospaying tribute to frontline workers of NandGhar who are working tirelessly towards upliftment of communities.The NandGhar project – run under the aegis of the Anil Agarwal Foundation -is transforming the Anganwadi ecosystem in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development. The campaign, conceptualized and created by McCann World Group, throws light on services such as education and new e-learning modules introduced across villages to ensure continuity of early childhood education even during the lockdown. These modules that were previously only seen in urban cities are now being implemented successfully in villages through the ardent efforts of the Nand Ghar team. Another video showcases the advanced healthcare facilities provided to the communities. Medical services that were a distant dream for these villages are now seeing the light of day due to the Nand Ghar project. The company’s Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter (234 MW), Dariba Smelting Complex Captive Power Plant (160 MW), Zawar Captive Power Plant (90 MW) were felicitated with the Gold Award at the SEEM National Energy Management Award Ceremony. This award is a testimony of Hindustan Zinc’s continuous efforts to monitor its energy consumption; adopt energy conservation practices and the commitment towards the reduction of a carbon footprint. On receiving the Award, Mr. Arun Misra, CEO-Hindustan Zinc said “We recognize our responsibility to contribute to the global effort of decarbonizing footprint. We at Hindustan Zinc are committed to run our operations on low carbon and carbon-neutral technologies. Over the years, we have continuously invested in technology and increased our portfolio of renewable power to make our Captive Power Plants more green, reliable, efficient, and sustainable. This has contributed significantly to GHG saving of 12,343 tCO2e and energy saving of 4 Million Units (MU) of electricity.” Along with the motive to reduce the company’s carbon footprint on a sustainable basis through investments in green energy, the company has also expanded its operations to renewable power businesses. The company’s captive thermal, solar, and waste heat recycling power plants provide low-cost and reliable power to its operations. During the year, the Company produced solar power of 83.43 million units, waste heat energy of 203.13 million units and wind power of 362.93 million units leading to a reduction of 551695 MT of CO2 through green power. In FY ’21 total 1 MW of ground-mounted solar power plants was commissioned taking the total solar power capacity of the Company to 40.42MW for its captive consumption. In addition, the Company has a captive capacity of 35.27 MW through waste heat recovery boilers. The 273.5 MW wind energy plants are in five states and are under long-term power purchase agreement with distribution companies. The Company has made significant investment in green energy aggregating to 349.20 MW to reduce greenhouse gas emission and carbon footprint.
