Vedanta’s Hindustan Zinc sets-up ‘field hospital’ to fight against COVID

Udaipur: In the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, India’s leading metals and oil and gas company, Vedanta, through its flagship company Hindustan Zinc and as part of Anil Agarwal Foundation Initiative has inaugurated state-of-the-art fully equipped COVID care field hospital at Dariba, Rajsamand. This 8000 square meter hospital has air-conditioning dome based on German technology with a capacity of 100 beds including 20 ICU beds to treat patients & provide them with essential COVID treatment and medical facilities.

The hospital was inaugurated by the Chief Guest – Mr. Arvind Kumar Poswal – District Collector, Rajsamand in the presence of Mr. Sudhir Chaudhary – SP, Rajsamand, Mr. Arun Misra – CEO, Hindustan Zinc along with senior government officials and employees of Hindustan Zinc. Vedanta Limited has come out firmly in support of the Rajasthan government in its efforts to provide priority medical care to the Covid-affected people. The field hospital is situated in Hindustan Zinc’s DAV School playground at Dariba where world-class technology has been adopted ensuring strict adherence to safety.
While sharing his thoughts during the ceremony, Mr. Arvind Kumar Poswal – District Collector, Rajsamand said “In these distressed times, I appreciate the efforts of Vedanta, Anil Agarwal Foundation and Hindustan Zinc in coming up with 100 bed field hospital in a record time. This hospital will play a crucial role as Dariba is centrally located from all nearby districts of Rajsamand, Chittorgarh and Udaipur. This state-of-the-art facility has all the basic & advanced medical amenities available to ensure best treatment to COVID patients. With this Vedanta Cares field hospital, we are ready to face & fight 3rd wave of Pandemic.”

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Arun Misra, CEO Hindustan Zinc said “This state-of-the-art fully equipped 100 bed field hospital is one of our consistent efforts to support and strengthen the medical infrastructure for extending quality medical care to the community in the COVID-19 pandemic. I am very hopeful that it will bring relief to all COVID patients. This hospital is a result of day & night hard work of our brilliant team of officers on-ground who made this a reality in a short time. This well-equipped infrastructure will also help the state to be fully ready to face a possible 3rd wave of the COVID pandemic.”

The field hospital has adopted latest world-class technologies and it ensures strict adherence to safety & COVID guidelines. Facilities like ventilator support and Oxygen beds are provided at utmost efficiency to ensure best medical treatment for the Covid patients. HEPA filters are placed to arrest any kind of air transmission of the SARS- CoV-2 Virus, which will further help in combating the spread of airborne bacterial and viral organisms and ensure 99.99% air purity. In addition to that, overall safety and hygiene is continuously monitored with provisions for dedicated PPE changing stations, an adequate number of fire extinguishers, and CCTV cameras. The field hospital has a continuous power supply through DG sets, oxygen supply through medical pipelines and centrally monitored ICU facilities are adopted to ensure timely medical treatment to the Covid patients. For continuous electricity and water facility in the COVID care hospital, 1200 KV electricity connection and 10 thousand litres capacity for water has been provided.
The operation and maintenance of the hospital, the medical team and the items of daily use including medicines will be looked after and managed by the Local Administration.
This 100-bed field hospital is in addition to the support provided by Hindustan Zinc to the district administration in setting-up the 350-bed hospital in DAV school premises.
Since the beginning of 2nd wave of pandemic, Hindustan Zinc set up an oxygen bottling plant at its Dariba unit (Rajsamand district) in a record time of 5 days in April month for continuous oxygen supply for patients and since then has supplied around 14000 cylinders of medical oxygen. The company has also supported the local authorities with over ~225 MT of liquid oxygen thus providing a total of ~365 MT oxygen till date. Hindustan Zinc has gone a step further and especially imported and brought 500 oxygen concentrators for the state.
Earlier this year, Hindustan Zinc provided an insulated vaccine van to the Udaipur district medical health office to support smooth vaccination drive. The company has even extended support to the Local Health Administrations, by disinfecting villages by spraying & fumigating with Sodium Hypochlorite solution and providing medical gears like masks, sanitizers & Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to local communities.


Vedanta Cares carries out largest vaccination drives across Corporate India

New Delhi/ Mumbai : In one of the largest COVID vaccination drives carried out by Corporate India so far, Vedanta Cares has administered one dose of vaccine to over 84,000 employees, business partners as well as their family members. The company proposes to complete its vaccination drive across all its locations by August 2021. In a first of its kind initiative, Vedanta also plans to provide the first jab across locations to those visitors, who have not been inoculated so far.

In another significant move, Vedanta will extend Covid Kawach Insurance to its business partners that includes Term Life and Hospitalisation as well as an Ex-gratia amount of INR 10 lacs to be paid to the family members of the deceased business partner employee.
Considering the increased mortality rate due to Covid-19 and the recent black fungus epidemic, the company is providing cover for family members of deceased employees in the form of continued payments of last drawn salary until notional date of retirement, continuation of Mediclaim insurance coverage until retirement and education assistance for 2 children until graduation.Under the aegis of Vedanta Cares Covid relief initiatives, the company announces long term HR benefits and increased Covid cover, in line with its commitment to ensure the health and well-being of its people. These will include enhanced Covid insurance for its employees, their families and business partners.
Vedanta Chairman, Mr Anil Agarwal said, “Employee-centricity is at the core of Vedanta’s organisational culture. Our employees and our extended family of business partners have always been our greatest resource and their safety and wellbeing is our foremost priority. We have announced an additional Ex-gratia payment of 10 lacs each, to the families of the deceased business partners apart from other benefits. Keeping the repercussions of the second wave in mind, we are bolstering our efforts towards ensuring maximum protection for our people. The comprehensive cover includes enhanced medical insurance to cater to all expenses, including reimbursement for home treatment.”
The Medical insurance cover for employees has also been enhanced to 1.5 times the existing eligibility. Vedanta is extending all support that is required and has introduced a corporate floater cover for any employee exceeding their eligibility. The company also provides a best-in-class life insurance policy equivalent to 5 times of annual fixed pay.
The company is spending around Rs. 13 crore to procure vaccines in bulk for the entire Vedanta family, for 100% vaccination coverage in its areas of operations.
Vedanta has provided critical support to society and to those affected by the pandemic in the form of producing and supplying oxygen, setting up field hospitals and Covid care centres, providing vaccinations and medical equipment for critical care, like oxygen cylinders, ventilators, ICU beds etc. The company is leaving no stone unturned when it comes to the safety of its employees. As part of its disaster management protocol, Vedanta’s Covid warriors are preparing and taking pre-emptive and preventive measures in case of any signs of a third wave.


HINDUSTAN ZINC VACCINATES 20000+ AGAINST COVID

Amidst this pandemic, Hindustan Zinc has adhered to the various mandated norms and regulations. The Guidelines were drawn centrally applicable for all operations of Hindustan Zinc, with responsibilities defined for business continuity and elimination of risk to the workforce.
The company has also introduced the Group Corona Kavach Policy that covers more than 25800 contract workforces in Rajasthan and Pantnagar in Uttarakhand. This cashless policy covers all corona related diagnostic charges including pre-hospitalization and post-hospitalization expenses. There is also a dedicated 24×7 Covid Care Apollo helpline number to provide any kind of healthcare support and assistance for all employees and their dependents.


HIND ZINC’S SMELTER AT DEBARI INAUGURATES WATER ATM

Udaipur : Sustainability and water positivity is at the core of Hindustan Zinc’s principles, be it for its operations or itssurrounding communities. Rajasthan is a water scarce state and Hindustan Zinc has been making constant efforts in conserving water as well as ensuring water sufficiency for its surrounding villages, especially for safe, drinking water.To make villages near Debari location water sufficient, Hindustan Zinc’s Smelter at Debari installed and inaugurateda water ATM of 3000 litres capacity at Singhwaton ka Wada.

Inauguration of the water ATM was done by Mr. Dharam Narayan Joshi, MLA – Mavli, along with key village stakeholders and PRI Representatives as well as employees of Hindustan Zinc. The guests appreciated the support extended by Hindustan Zinc towards the communities, as this initiative will likely benefit more than 5000 community members from nearby communities on a daily basis. Till date, Hindustan Zinc has installed a total of 13 RO plants and 39 water ATMs across its operational areas, that provide safe drinking water facilities to members of local villages.
As part of its core philosophy, HZL works closely with its communities to create value for its stakeholders and drive overall social-economic development. The company is currently impacting the lives of about 5 Lakh people through various community development initiatives. The CSR initiatives focus on 184 villages in the vicinity of its business operations in Rajasthan.


Hind Zinc wins four Awards during CII World Environment Day 2021

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc believes in innovating for a sustainable future and true to its philosophy, the company has won four awards during CII World Environment Day 2021.Hindustan Zinc has adopted several environment friendly practices continuously invest in technology to make their operations more sustainable.

Among 52 companies who participated across India, 15 were recognized as ‘Excellent’ and two units were from Hindustan Zinc. Rajpura Dariba Mine (RDM) and Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter (CLZS) of Hindustan Zinc won the ‘Excellent’ award each in the category of ‘Case Study – Recognition for ecological restoration by companies’ for the projects – Development of Biodiversity Park at RDM and Waste Disposal Site Remediation-Restoration of Jarofix Waste Yard at CLZS.

Rajpura Dariba Mine is one of the oldest underground lead-zinc minesthat has adopted internationally recognised energy management standard ISO 50001 with continuous focus on reducing overall energy consumption, improving energy and efficiency which in the long run help mitigate climate change.Under Biodiversity Park project, around 10ha of land around Rajpura Dariba Complex has been developed where around 50,000 plants of 42 different species were planted to attract local and migratory birds which come to nearby Irrigation pond.

Chanderiya Lead-Zinc Smelter is one of the largest single location integrated zinc smelting complexesin the world where they have a strong focus on Waste Management and gainful utilization of waste in the plant. Chanderiya team in collaboration with TERI (The Energy and research Institute) has used mycorrhiza technology for development of Green area on its Existing Jarofix Waste dump.The technology is a symbiotic association between a plant and a fungus, where the plant provides food for the fungus and the fungus draws nutrients from the soil and add to improvement of cultivation processes, rejuvenation of fertile soils and reclamation of wasteland into productive land in a sustainable manner.

From over 2000 participants, 52 were selected for the final round as winners of‘Online Quiz Competition’ whereMs Shama Jain and Mr Tejas Bagrecha from HSE department of Hindustan Zinc wereamong the declared winners. Shama has been associated with the organization for over 12 years and has been responsible for handling Sustainability Reporting and Communication whereas Tejas has been actively involved in various environment related projects of the organization.

Amidst this pandemic, Hindustan Zinc has adhered to the various mandated norms and regulations. The company has also introduced, as a reaction to the pandemic, various measures to change the way of working to ensure a safer working environment for the employees. The Guidelines were drawn centrally applicable for all operations of the company, with responsibilities defined for business continuity and elimination of risk to the workforce. On the plant side, Hindustan Zinc has taken all safety precautions by implementing government standards and protocols.

Hindustan Zincis a COP 26 Business Leader and is working towards achieving Science-Based Targets (SBT’s) to curb carbon footprint. The companyhas been ranked 1st in Asia Pacific & 7th globallyby Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2020 in metals & mining sector. It is also a member of the FTSE4Good Index and is among the only four companies in India to be part of the coveted ‘A’ list by CDP for climate change.
