Hind Zinc wins at Indian Institute of Metals Quality Awards 2020

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc has won the Non-Ferrous Best Performance Award 2020 (2nd Prize) from The Indian Institute of Metals (IIM). HZL won the award at the National Quality Competition under the category of – Large Integrated Manufacturing Plants.

The company has always been at the forefront of implementing and adopting sustainable practices in its business, be it environmental best practices, waste to wealth initiatives or R&D for new product development.Sustainability lies in the core of HZL and the company has won several accolades for its sustainable initiatives.
The National Quality Competition is being held since the 2002with an objective of promoting development and growth of the Indian Non-ferrous metals industry and recognises best performance in developments by organisations.
Hindustan Zinc’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2025 over the next five years are focused around creating significant opportunities to enable positive changes across operations towards green mining. As a COP 26 Business Leader, Hindustan Zinc has adopted several initiatives with advanced technologies to optimise water consumption, enhance energy productivity, tackle climate change, and safeguard diversity.
Hindustan Zinc is also recognized for its leadership in corporate sustainability by global environmental non-profit CDP, securing a place on its prestigious ‘A List’ for tackling climate change. The company is also ranked 1stin Asia Pacific by The Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2020 for its continued actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and develop a low-carbon ecosystem.

Hindustan Zinc’s SAMADHAN project transforming lives of women farmers
Udaipur. Leading the way to embracing newer crops and newer techniques for farming in their region, are three strong women from a small tribal village under one of Hindustan Zinc’s flagship program – SAMADHAN

These women farmers have for the first time grown high-value strawberries in their farms and are inspiring others to explore beyond traditional farming and be self-reliant.Hindustan Zinc has always been a frontrunner in adopting innovative techniques in their operations as well as taking it to the communities around them.
Narmada Meena, Chanda Meena and Sonia Meena– the trio from the tribal village of Zawar in Rajasthan were beyond thrilledwhen theycame to know of strawberries grown on their tribal rural farm, reach the residence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan Mr Ashok Gehlot. These women farmers are associated with Hindustan Zinc’s SAMADHAN project under which they cultivated a premium variety of strawberry named “winter down” for the first time in the Zawar region of Udaipur district. Besides their traditional farming methods, the women adopted newer techniques of farming to grow exotic and high-value produce such as strawberries.
The strawberries were presented to Mr Ashok Gehlot by Chairman of Vedanta Resources Mr Anil Agarwal, on his recent meeting with the Chief Minister in Jaipur. During this meeting, Honourable Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Ashok Gehlotappreciated Hindustan Zinc’s Samadhan initiative as an exemplary programme and said that the farmers of the state should increase their livelihood with the cultivation of cash crops along with the use of latest technology in traditional farming.
Vedanta Resources Chairman, Mr Anil Agarwalon presenting the strawberries said,“I am thrilled & amazed to see how technology & innovation intervention by us can bring smiles on the faces of our farmers. Giving back has always been the core philosophy of Vedanta and I believe that as one grows in life, his responsibility towards the community also grows. I feel proud to see these rural & tribal women exploring high value crops like strawberry and taking charge of enhancing their life.”
Hindustan Zinc CEO, Mr Arun Misra added that“In addition to modern technology and traditional agriculture, the farmers associated with our Samadhan project have started cultivation of high-tech vegetable and fruit farming which has increased production of these crops and their income. The cultivation of crops such as broccoli, strawberries and lettuce under the pilot project has been successful and proved beneficial to the farmers.”

On hearing the news, the three ladies were beyond thrilled. Sonia Meena, who has her farm in the village of Singhatwada, said “It would have been difficult to visualize my farm a year ago, the way it is now. We planted strawberries for the first time with the help of SAMADHAN program run by Hindustan Zinc, who introduced us to cash crops, strawberry farming and the scientific process of high-density plantation. Thanks to this, not only has there been an increase in my income and crop productivity, I have also been able to try something new. I plan on scaling up next year to reap more benefits.”
“A year ago, I would not even have dreamt of the possibility of growing strawberries on my farm, let alone the thought of them reaching the Chief Minister’s residence. SAMADHAN project has helped me not only dream of it, but also turn it into a reality. Through this program, I have learned and developed the technical expertise to grow a fruit like strawberry, which has enhanced my livelihood and given me good value for my production. My entire family is excited to take up this production next year as well,”said Narmada Meena from Tidi.
“I had never seen strawberries before in my life, but today I can proudly say that I have not only gained the technical expertise to grow strawberries but can also attribute these to be an important contribution to my family’s income. This has all been possible due to Hindustan Zinc’s intervention through the SAMADHAAN project, and I plan to take it a step further by increasing my production next year,”said Chanda Meena from Zawar.


Vedanta NandGhar bags the “CSR Shining Star Award”

Mumbai. Vedanta Limited has been conferred with the “CSR Shining Star Award” under the category of Child Development for NandGhar, Vedanta Group’s flagship corporate social responsibility project. The recognition was given by Honorable Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari in an award ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan, Mumbai on 20th February 2021.

The award recognizes Vedanta’s efforts towards the holistic development and growth of childrencontributing towards building a stronger and healthier nation.
Speaking on receiving the award, Vedanta Director, Ms. Priya Agarwal said: “I am honored as well as humbled to receive the award for our NandGharsthat are transforming the lives of rural women and children across the country. We are committed to fulfilling Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of eradicating child malnutrition, providing education and healthcare, and empowering rural women through skill development, and NandGhar will be the change agent for the same. I have no doubt in my mind that NandGhar will continue to create a better tomorrow for the children and their mothers at the grassroots level.”
The NandGhar journey began in 2015 with a vision to transform the lives of 8.5 crore children and 2 crore women across 13.7 lakh anganwadis. A dream project of Vedanta Chairman, Shri Anil Agarwal, NandGhar is a network of model anganwadis where the thrust is on inclusive development of children, women and local communities. The NandGhars are set up in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development.
With more than 2000 centres, the NandGhar project is now spread across 10 states – Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Assam, Himanchal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The project aims to touch the lives of 4 million community members while directly impacting around 2 lakh children and 1.8 lakh women on an annual basis.
NandGhars are equipped with solar panels to ensure 24 x 7 electricity, water purifiers, clean toilets and smart television sets, and have become a model resource centre for the local communities. Pre-school education is provided to children in the age group of 3-6 years. Nutritious meals and take-home rations are being provided for children, pregnant and lactating women. Primary healthcare services are rendered through mobile health vans and women are empowered through skilling, credit linkage and enterprise development.

Kaustubh wins Hind Zinc and Smritiyaan’s ‘Pratibha’ talent hunt

Organised to identify budding artists across 5 districts of Rajasthan, Pratibha virtual talent hunt saw over 100 entries, 15-year-old Kaustubh Manipushp Kunj, declared ‘Pratibha’ winner and conferred with Pandit Chatur Lal Yuva Puruskar, he 20th edition of Smritiyaan e-concert #UdaipurChapter concludes with mesmerising performances from acclaimed Indian artists

Udaipur, 20th February 2021: It was an evening that mesmerised listeners across parts of the world with a unique blend of Carnatic and Hindustani Music. Smritiyaan e-concert’s #UdaipurChapter had the audience enthralled by little maestro Kaustubh Manipushp Kunj. Winner of ‘Pratibha’ online talent hunt, the 15-year old prodigy from Ajmer mesmerised the audience with his soul-stirring performance.

The ‘Pratibha’ talent hunt was initiated as a platform to give an opportunity to local artists from Rajasthan a chance to perform globally. Entries were invited from Udaipur, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara and Ajmer districts of Rajasthan to come and audition in front of an esteemed jury of personalities – Bhajan Samraat Anup Jalota, Kathak Guru Shovana Narayan, Tabla Maestro Pt. Charanjit Lal, and Flautist Pt. Ronu Majumdar. Among over 100 entries, six participants were shortlisted for the final round. Kaustubh Manipushp Kunj and Navdeep Singh Jhala from Ajmer; Neeraj Mistry, Vinay Kadel and Mohd. Tabriz & Ariz from Udaipur; and The Rajsamand Group comprising of Harshit Purbiya, Nimisha Pagaria, Raksha Pagaria & Komal Nagarchi from Rajsamand showcased their talent in the final round, where Kaustubh was declared the winner. Kaustubh is a Hindustani Classical Vocal and Instrumental Tabla artist who started his musical journey at the age of four. He has previously won a number of awards at district, state, national and international levels.
The evening also had performances by music maestros of India – Dr Mysore Manjunath, Pt. Gaurav Mazumdar, Vidwan B. C. Manjunath and Pranshu Chatur Lal presenting the much-awaited jugalbandi of Carnatic and Hindustani Ragas. The moments of soulful elegant fusion of North and South music were made complete with the Violin, the Sitar, the Mridangam and the Tabla.
Sharing the stage with such acclaimed Indian maestros Kaustabh said, “I congratulate Hindustan Zinc and Pandit Chaturlal Memorial Society for successfully organizing such a great event, especially during the pandemic situation. I am so grateful & honoured to have performed in front of such world-renowned artists during the auditions and the event as well. I thank them for their appreciation, blessings & guidance. It was like a dream come true for me”.
Hindustan Zinc has always been at the forefront of promoting local talent and supporting cultural endeavors as a part of their CSR initiatives. As a step further in this direction, the company partnered with ‘Smritiyaan’ to launch ‘Pratibha’ talent hunt in January 2021 to give an opportunity to Rajasthan’s local artists to perform globally.
