Hindustan Zinc as a partner promotes India’s cultural legacy of art & music and reiterates its efforts to conserve the rich heritage on World Music Day, The underlying theme of the 6th edition is ‘“Preservation and propagation of the forgotten musical instruments and traditions of Rajasthan”, VUWMF 2022 will focus on the soulful Sarangi instrument and encourage its artists to showcase their talent
Udaipur: Hindustan Zinc, India’s only and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc-lead-silver producer is bringing the 6th edition of Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival, India’s biggest world music extravaganza, to the beautiful city of lakes. The sixth edition of the festival will witness the presence of over 100 renowned musicians from over the world including Paraguay, Colombia, Chile, Panama, Italy, India and many more. With a footfall of over 45,000 people every year, the festival is one of the biggest performing arts attractions in the country.

With its sixth edition, the festival will also be celebrating six years of its association with Hindustan Zinc Limited under the company’s CSR program. At Hindustan Zinc’s head office in Udaipur on World Music Day the festival was formally unveiled with the signing of a 3-year Memorandum of Understanding to further enhance this relationship with Hindustan Zinc Limited and bring successful editions of the festival to Udaipur. The MoU signing was held in the presence of Mr. Arun Misra – Whole Time Director, Hindustan Zinc & CEO Zinc Business – Vedanta and Mr. Sanjeev Bhargava, Founder Director – Seher India in Udaipur today.
At the signing event, Mr Arun Misra, Whole Time Director Hindustan Zinc Limited & CEO Zinc Business Vedanta, said “Art & Music is a language that teaches us to stay tolerant, respect others, remain kind & humble and live harmoniously. We at Hindustan Zinc and Vedanta have always encouraged and supported arts & culture and through this platform we want to encourage young budding talents by providing them with different ways to showcase their talent, learn & grow. Our aim is to make Udaipur the musical capital of India and this is just another step towards the same”
The festival features unparalleled live performances and celebrates cultural diversity at its best. The sixth edition has the underlying theme of ‘“Preservation and propagation of the forgotten musical instruments and traditions of Rajasthan” where the festival focuses on reviving forgotten musical instruments and its artists by encouraging them and giving them a platform. VUWMF 2022 will focus on showcasing Sarangi, to inspire younger generations to follow its legacy. Sarangi is a protected musical tradition by UNESCO.
In lieu of this edition, the festival will also organise the Vedanta Talent Hunt across Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Ajmer and Udaipur District in search of local talents who can either sing or play any musical instrument, in order to encourage and give them the opportunity to showcase themselves in the festival.
This year will witness performances by artistes such as Papon (India), Kamakshi Khanna (India), IDR (Italy), Fado singer Katia Guerreiro (Portugal), ABAKORAO (Colombia, Chile, Panama, Paraguay), SENZA (Portugal) among others.
