HINDUSTAN ZINC VACCINATES 20000+ AGAINST COVID

udaipur. Hindustan Zinc firmly believes in ‘people first’ and employees are at the heart of its operations. Following its guiding principle of giving back and caring, Hindustan Zinc organized a mega vaccination camp as a preventive measure against COVID with an aim to cover 100% eligible employees, employee relatives and business partners. The company, committed to being at the forefront of providing all support in the fight against COVID, has so far inoculated more than 20,000 people across its locations in Rajasthan at Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand and Udaipur.

Mr. Arun Misra, CEO Hindustan Zinc who also got his 2nd dose of vaccination during the drive said “We at Vedanta reassure our employees, contract workforce & their families that We Care & are solidly standing in creating a safe & better tomorrow. Our doctors and medical staff are always there to guide and provide the best possible medical treatment. I urge all those who are eligible to go ahead & get vaccinated.”

Amidst this pandemic, Hindustan Zinc has adhered to the various mandated norms and regulations. The company has also introduced, as a reaction to the pandemic, various measures to change the way of working to ensure a safer working environment for the employees. The Guidelines were drawn centrally applicable for all operations of Hindustan Zinc, with responsibilities defined for business continuity and elimination of risk to the workforce.
The company has also introduced the Group Corona Kavach Policy that covers more than 25800 contract workforces in Rajasthan and Pantnagar in Uttarakhand. This cashless policy covers all corona related diagnostic charges including pre-hospitalization and post-hospitalization expenses. There is also a dedicated 24×7 Covid Care Apollo helpline number to provide any kind of healthcare support and assistance for all employees and their dependents.


HIND ZINC’S SMELTER AT DEBARI INAUGURATES WATER ATM

Udaipur : Sustainability and water positivity is at the core of Hindustan Zinc’s principles, be it for its operations or itssurrounding communities. Rajasthan is a water scarce state and Hindustan Zinc has been making constant efforts in conserving water as well as ensuring water sufficiency for its surrounding villages, especially for safe, drinking water.To make villages near Debari location water sufficient, Hindustan Zinc’s Smelter at Debari installed and inaugurateda water ATM of 3000 litres capacity at Singhwaton ka Wada.

Inauguration of the water ATM was done by Mr. Dharam Narayan Joshi, MLA – Mavli, along with key village stakeholders and PRI Representatives as well as employees of Hindustan Zinc. The guests appreciated the support extended by Hindustan Zinc towards the communities, as this initiative will likely benefit more than 5000 community members from nearby communities on a daily basis. Till date, Hindustan Zinc has installed a total of 13 RO plants and 39 water ATMs across its operational areas, that provide safe drinking water facilities to members of local villages.
As part of its core philosophy, HZL works closely with its communities to create value for its stakeholders and drive overall social-economic development. The company is currently impacting the lives of about 5 Lakh people through various community development initiatives. The CSR initiatives focus on 184 villages in the vicinity of its business operations in Rajasthan.


Hind Zinc wins four Awards during CII World Environment Day 2021

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc believes in innovating for a sustainable future and true to its philosophy, the company has won four awards during CII World Environment Day 2021.Hindustan Zinc has adopted several environment friendly practices continuously invest in technology to make their operations more sustainable.

Among 52 companies who participated across India, 15 were recognized as ‘Excellent’ and two units were from Hindustan Zinc. Rajpura Dariba Mine (RDM) and Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter (CLZS) of Hindustan Zinc won the ‘Excellent’ award each in the category of ‘Case Study – Recognition for ecological restoration by companies’ for the projects – Development of Biodiversity Park at RDM and Waste Disposal Site Remediation-Restoration of Jarofix Waste Yard at CLZS.

Rajpura Dariba Mine is one of the oldest underground lead-zinc minesthat has adopted internationally recognised energy management standard ISO 50001 with continuous focus on reducing overall energy consumption, improving energy and efficiency which in the long run help mitigate climate change.Under Biodiversity Park project, around 10ha of land around Rajpura Dariba Complex has been developed where around 50,000 plants of 42 different species were planted to attract local and migratory birds which come to nearby Irrigation pond.

Chanderiya Lead-Zinc Smelter is one of the largest single location integrated zinc smelting complexesin the world where they have a strong focus on Waste Management and gainful utilization of waste in the plant. Chanderiya team in collaboration with TERI (The Energy and research Institute) has used mycorrhiza technology for development of Green area on its Existing Jarofix Waste dump.The technology is a symbiotic association between a plant and a fungus, where the plant provides food for the fungus and the fungus draws nutrients from the soil and add to improvement of cultivation processes, rejuvenation of fertile soils and reclamation of wasteland into productive land in a sustainable manner.

From over 2000 participants, 52 were selected for the final round as winners of‘Online Quiz Competition’ whereMs Shama Jain and Mr Tejas Bagrecha from HSE department of Hindustan Zinc wereamong the declared winners. Shama has been associated with the organization for over 12 years and has been responsible for handling Sustainability Reporting and Communication whereas Tejas has been actively involved in various environment related projects of the organization.

The companyhas been ranked 1st in Asia Pacific & 7th globallyby Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2020 in metals & mining sector. It is also a member of the FTSE4Good Index and is among the only four companies in India to be part of the coveted ‘A’ list by CDP for climate change.


Hind Zinc launches Zinc Eco-Buddies

a unique new age click to plant initiative on Environment Day
Udaipur. Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta Group company has always been at the forefront of driving sustainable development across its operations and has imbibed as an integral part of its business philosophy. On World Environment Day, the company has launched a unique initiative Zinc Eco Buddies– a virtual platform where anyone can click and take a green pledge and Hindustan Zinc will plant a tree on ground in their name.This plantation drive is a step toward protecting & preserving ecological balance of nature around us.

During the launch, Mr. Arun Misra – CEO Hindustan Zinc said “The vision of building a cleaner, greener and more resilient economy is now possible if we follow the 7R principles (Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Repurpose, Reuse, Recycle, Rot) and augment our efforts towards restoring the ecosystem through investments that are aligned with creating long term impact on environment. We are pleased to launch Zinc Eco Buddies- a virtual plantation portal for everyone where we aim to plant 1 lakh trees through this initiative as a part of our vision of 1 million plantation by 2025.”
In the current COVID scenario, Zinc Eco Buddies initiative offers a simple & innovative solution of virtual portal to registeron its microsite for plantation. Hindustan Zinc has rolled out this initiative across its business locations and will plant a sapling on-ground in the name of requestor. This is an open platform for all employees, business partners, stakeholders and anyone can raise a plantation request as the process is free of cost.The saplings planted will be native species and drought tolerant in nature.
Requester will get an acknowledgement mail/SMS and an e-certificate of participation in this initiative. Also, once the plant will be planted on ground, he will be updated periodically on the growth of his/ her plant. Also, through the Geo tagging, he/she can visit the plantation area through Google Earth or any Map App.
The campaign is a step to combat climate change &desertification and a building block to protect, promote and restore sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. Consequently, achieving the Sustainability Development Goals the company has set for itself. The company has taken a holistic view in setting its sustainability goals for 2025, aligning them with UN Sustainability Global Goals and focuses on expanding the work towards creating positive changes. The company’s 2025 targets include reducing GHG emissions, passing on sustainability standards to suppliers, reducing dependency on freshwater, moving towards zero waste to landfill, improving the livelihoods of one million people and increasing diversity & inclusion in the workplace.
Hindustan Zinc is 2.41 times Water Positive and has been demonstrating their commitment towards water stewardship by using water efficiently, maintaining water quality and engaging with communities to collaboratively manage a shared water resource throughout the life cycle withinitiatives like rainwater harvesting, recharge of groundwater and the use of treated sewage water have enabled the company to achieve this distinction.The company has constructed & commissioned Udaipur’s first STP under PPP model with Government of Rajasthan where it treatscity’s sewage and then uses this water for running its operations.
Additionally, as a pioneer in adopting innovative solutions and smart technologies for responsible mining, Hindustan Zinc has set a new benchmark as it leads the way for the introduction of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in underground mining.

A VIRTUAL EVENING WITH EMPLOYEES TO SPREAD SMILES

CEO-Hindustan Zinc connects virtually with employees through unique informal cultural program
At Hindustan Zinc, people are at the heart of operations and are one of the most important assets that constitutes the organization. During these distressed times, when people are struggling with the circumstances at personal level, the company has ensured to support them by providing best medical facilities, flexible work cultures, term insurance policy and vaccination to keep them safe. Now one more dimension has been added to the effort where Hindustan Zinc exemplified the value of HZL Cares and organized a one of its kind virtual cultural program for employees & their families.

With the lockdown forcing employees to work from home, there had to be a way to bring back the office teatime chit chat and those evening gossip sessions. The objective of this unique cultural evening was to bring joy, sharing good memories and lot of informal bonding time with each other virtually. This 2-hour program witnessed mesmerizing performances from employees of all age groups showcasing their talent and entertaining fellow colleagues.
Where there was Prateek & Shubham’s jugalbandi on flute & guitar mesmerized the viewers, there were Nisha & Tanushree’s dance performances from Pantnagar & Zawar that prompted them to groove on those songs. When there were budding poets like Bhuvnesh and Saurav from Kayad and Agucha who shared their work making the listeners to encore, there was Mukhtar and Sufal from Chanderiya and Dariba who enchanted the listeners with guzals and unique shayaris. Listeners were also enthralled by the emotional story shared by Shruti and beautiful voices of Avinash, Aishwarya, Nilesh and Nisha who transported them into a different world for those moments.
Along with all these splendid recitals, the highlights of the event were the captivating performances by Mr. Arun Misra – CEO, HZL with his beautiful singing and a heart touching poem relevant to these unprecedented times by Head Finance – Mr. Vinaya Jain.

CEO Hindustan Zinc who appreciated the efforts of the team and all the participants said “I have always liked interacting with my people at professional as well as at personal level but lockdown had restricted the later to some extent. With this informal unique session, I got an opportunity to connect with employees and their families where it was interesting to learn about their interests & talents and to witness the same virtually. It was wonderful to have everyone at Zinc Pariwar taking out time and doing something out-of-the-box during this pandemic”.
This open forum also led to the active participation of the employees in the form of audience as well as participants through warmup sessions, engaging games like Riddles, Tongue Twisters, Song Maze, and a small quiz on COVID Awareness.
The past few months have been difficult for all, without meeting and interacting physically but the evening had given an opportunity to have some stress-free time after long time, bringing everyone closer on a single platform.
