Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc (HZL), the leading producer of Zinc, Lead, and Silver in India has been awarded the Most Sustainable company in the mining industry by World Finance. The company is committed to smart, safe, and sustainable mining operations. Hindustan Zinc strives to conserve natural resources and adopt greener technologies wherever possible to ensure its environmental footprint shrinks year on year.

The company has been recognized for its ESG disclosure, its ambitious Sustainability goals 2025, analysis of the environmental impact and responsible approach towards its business, and many efforts towards GHG emissions reduction, water stewardship, circular economy, biodiversity conservation, zero harm, positive impact on local communities, diversity and equality and responsible sourcing.

Hindustan Zinc celebrates International Women’s Day

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc as an “Equal Opportunity Employer” is committed towards building a culture of inclusivity & diversity and ensuring the progress of women. On International Women’s Day, the company for itswomen employees, spouses of employees, female relatives, female contract workers as well as local community women from Hindustan Zinc’s CSR project Sakhi.

The highlight of the day was a live session with Mrs. Kiran Agarwal, Chairman of Hindustan Zinc virtually engagedhundreds of Sakhiwomen virtually and had a wonderful interactive session with them. While addressing them, she said, “Women empowerment is the key to ensure the overall development of not just families but also communities. I would like to congratulate each of you for the immense contribution and hard work you showcased during these challenging times. Each one of you has an inspiring journey and your efforts have taken the Sakhi program to the next level.”
During the session,the community women members shared their stories of the journey to empowerment through the Sakhi program by Hindustan Zinc achievements and thoughts and what role company has played in their overall development. Mrs. Agarwal appreciated their efforts and motivated them to continue developing their society and themselves with the same passion and vigor.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Arun Misra, CEO Hindustan Zinc said, “Empowering women not only improves the economic condition of the family but also enhance the progress and prosperity of the entire country. At Hindustan Zinc, we always focus our efforts on providing employment opportunities to women and encouraging enterprising mind-set to making them self-reliant. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all the women and would thank them for their valuable contribution in the success of the company”.
In addition to the session, throughout the day, series of initiatives were organized across operational units. An awareness session on Women Wellness was conducted by Mr. Hemant Pareek, celebrity fitness trainer, for all women employees of Hindustan Zinc. Activities such as showcasing a movie on the life of a woman leader, inauguration of an open office workplace by a women leader were organized at Kayad & Ajmer unit. The team at Chanderiya organized a self-defence training session for women. Large Scale celebration on International Women’s Day were held at Kayad, Agucha and Pantnagar at village level with the local community women.
Hindustan Zinc believes in empowerment through skill enhancement and providing a supportive management framework to the women to enable them to become strong, independent and capable leaders within the organization and in larger communities the company partners with. The company’s policies related to recruitment, talent management, reward and recognition are aligned to its goal of equal opportunity employer and a diverse representation of women in workplace at all levels including decision making has fostered creativity and innovation among women employees. The Women Councils across all locations of Hindustan Zinc are showing exemplary rigor and are driving the high impact initiatives to ensure inclusive and women friendly workplaces.
Around 26,000 Sakhi women related to the company’s CSR communities challenge stereotypes everyday by breaking gender norms, taking up leadership roles, adopting technology and being a part of sustainable development to better their lives.


Hind Zinc Leads the Way for Reducing Carbon Emission in Underground Mining

Udaipur. A pioneer in adopting innovative solutions and smart technologies for responsiblemining, Hindustan Zinc sets a newbenchmark as the company leads the way for introduction of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in underground mining.

Taking a step closer to achieving carbon neutrality, Hindustan Zinc signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Epiroc for ‘Zero Emission and Sustainable Mining by introduction of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) in underground mining’. This will help HZL to explore the possibility of introducing battery operated vehicles in underground mines which will help reduce carbon emissions, enabling the mine operations to become more environment friendly.
Industrial activities around the globe are fast moving towards building sustainable partnerships that bring efficiency and expertise to business. It’s imperative for any partnership to share same values to be successful, and both Hindustan Zinc as well as Epiroc India share the values of safety, sustainability, innovation and technology in running operations.
Commenting on the MoU, Mr Arun Misra, CEO, Hindustan Zinc said, “At Hindustan Zinc, we are committed to Smart, Safe and Sustainable operations and we believe that as a leader it is incumbent on us to be catalysts for transformation towards adopting sustainability driven business solutions. Mr Jerry Andersson, Managing Director, Epiroc India added, “A safer and cleaner mining starts only if someone takes the first step. Epiroc has always been a leader in mining technologies. We showcase the BEV in underground mining with the broadest offerings and a mission to deliver the world’s greenest machines. Our memorandum with Hindustan Zinc is a step on our mutual journey for a safer and more sustainable mining operation to come.”
The future is electric, and technologies such as these will be at the forefront of smart operations. This partnership will in future allow a fleet of highly efficient electric powered equipment that at one end will reduce carbon emission by replacing diesel-fuelled equipment and on the other hand will increase productivity with its evolved design.
Sustainability across operations is part of the core business philosophy at Hindustan Zinc. As a COP26 business leader, the company has been consistently working towards achieving science-based targets (SBT) to curb carbon footprint. It is part of the prestigious CDP “A List” for all its initiatives towards tackling climate change and is also ranked 1st in Asia Pacific & 7th Globally by The Dow Jones Sustainability Index 2020.

Hind Zinc’s Pantnagar Metal Plant wins Quality Concepts Awards 2020

Udaipu : Hindustan Zinc’s Pantnagar metal plant has won “Par Excellence Award” and “Excellence Award” at 34th National Convention on Quality Concepts Awards 2020organized by Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI). Three teams from HZL’s Pantnagar Metal Plant – Team Warrior, Team Giants and Team Avishkar had participated and secured these awards under the two categories.

Team Giants consisting of members – Bhartendu Singh, Atul Sharma, Gautam Singh, Kailash Joshi, Kripal Singh, Atul Aggarwal, Shashank Joshi, and Sanjay Kumar – won the Par Excellence award.
Team Warriors consisting of members – Shubham Saurav, Umesh Mehto, Praveen Ramola, Govind Adikari, Atul Aggarwal, and Shashank Joshi – also won the Par Excellence award.
Team Avishkar consisting of members – Mohit Kumar, Sajnath Paswan, Santosh Kumar Yadav, Santosh Yadav, Mahesh Kumar Nagle, Rabindra Kumar, and Shubham Abhinav Soni – won the Excellence award.
In order to foster a culture of Innovation and focus on Quality, the Pantnagar Metal Plant has 17 active quality circle (QC) teams at present. The employees also take great pride in voluntarily driving the circles and achieving new heights to deliver business targets, strengthen reliabilities of asset and contributing towards sustainable growth, team building, reduction in waste and create a stress free work environment. All three teams have now qualified for the International Convention ICQCC – 2021.
